~1,500 missiles a day on Iraq

Previous reports estimated that "between 300 and 400 cruise missiles would fall on Iraq" on each of the first two days of the war. The US was hoping that raining this much destruction down on the Iraqi people would "Shock and Awe" them into submission.

Now, a NY Times report suggests that the Pentagon's bombing plan is even more devastating, as it "calls for unleashing 3,000 precision-guided bombs and missiles in the first 48 hours of the opening air campaign."
