Illict US arm sales to Iraq?

This story, which was first reported by the Mirror, makes absolutely no sense, unless you put it in the context of the US looking to get arms into the hands of people who it shouldn't necessarily be giving arms to.

Namely, those nebulous "irregulars" who Chris Floyd keeps yammering about, but everyone else seems to be willfully ignoring.
