On to Tehran, part MVXI

It's not comforting to think this, but Jim Lobe is impolite enough to point out that, yes, things could get much worse. One word: Iran.

As an aside, in some recent news conference I caught on C-Span an intrepid foreign reporter asked a US official (it might have been Bolton; can't recall exactly) to explain the logic behind the US rejecting overtures by Iran going back a few years, including a surprising offer to disarm Hezbollah, and now excoriating Iran (and Syria) for its support of the "terrorist group."

In response, the official muttered something along the lines of "I don't know about that" and promptly moved on. As far as I could tell, there weren't any follow-up questions.
