Neocon blunder of the century?

Paul Woodward reflects on the ignored Iranian overtures to the United States, dating back to at least 2003.

As he puts it, "at a time when tensions between the United States and Iran are mounting dangerously, it is critically important that more Americans learn about what an Iranian government was capable of offering and what a priceless opportunity the White House foolishly squandered."

True enough, but I'd argue that it is hardly a "priceless opportunity" when the people you want to dislodge from power show a willingness for rapprochement. More like a nightmare. That is and was the Cheney/Ledeen mindset.
